Nearly a year ago I met with Ben and Riley to talk wedding photography, and during that get-together Riley told me that she’d love an engagement session in the spring, complete with blossoming trees. So as we came into April this year we started tentatively planning for the session, while I went scouting for the perfect location. Once we found the spot, Riley and I emailed back and forth countless times over the past few weeks, holding our breaths for the perfect opportunity! The weather was cold, the 7-day forecast was full of rain, and we waited and waited for our magnolia tree to blossom, knowing that once it did we would only have a couple days to get in there and take advantage of the dreamy flowers! Friends, talk about pressure!
Thankfully, everything aligned perfectly, and we were treated to a (mostly) dry evening, hot temperatures, a magnolia tree in bloom, and an open schedule for all three of us!
I met the two lovebirds at Ajax Rotary Park, where we started our session with the pretty little tree that we’d been waiting on– and it was totally worth the wait! Riley was rocking a gorgeous two-piece dress, and Ben couldn’t keep his eyes off of her (can you blame him?)! From the magnolia tree, we visited a few other spots around the park before having to run for cover when some fast-moving rain clouds passed us by! Once they eased off, we were graced with a rainbow over the lake, then we made our way back to our cars to go get coffee, change, and continue the session in Pickering until we started to lose the light.
This fall we’ll work with Ben and Riley again for their wedding, just in time for the trees to be a different kind of colourful!
