With our Holiday Event just around the corner, I’ve had a number of people chat with me about the Magic Portraits, and how they’re put together! The general assumption seems to be that we’re photographing on a physical backdrop, when in reality these magical images are done almost entirely in the computer! I love taking this approach to our Magic Portraits, because although it is a lot more time consuming on my part, it opens up endless possibilities for the finished art!
For the purpose of the Holiday Event, we’ve selected 4 magical scenes to choose from. At your session during the Event, we’ll photograph your child to fit with the scene that you’ve selected. Afterwards, we’ll bring the image into Photoshop to extract the subject from the background, and we’ll then place them into corresponding Magic Scene. From there, we touch up the subject to remove the halo effect and any unwanted elements that weren’t extracted initially. Then we’ll add any necessary shadows, adjust lighting to suit the scene, and make any other tweaks needed to make the final image as believable as possible! You can watch this process in hyper-speed below, where we took the 45-minute process and sped it up to only 1.5 minutes!
